Katie: Sound advice on the beginner front & great point regarding teaching people who have had strokes. I wonder if other folks out there have first-hand experience doing yoga with chronic conditions.

If you're a yoga beginner, don't try to learn on your own. Find a good instructor, and get the basics right - once you have some knowledge, you can use DVDs to supplement. Also, you don't need to be flexible to do yoga! My teacher recently taught a yoga class for stroke patients who can barely move fingers and toes.
