Cleo Hutton, Stroke Survivor and Author

Cleo Hutton is coauthor of Striking Back at Stroke: A Doctor-Patient Journal (Dana Press) and author of After a Stroke: 300 Tips for Making Life Easier (Demos Medical Publishing). Her campaign to spread the word about stroke and stroke recovery issues has been carried on national radio shows and television broadcasts and featured in several magazines, including Prevention , Cerebrum , and Stroke Smart . In 2006, she received Northland NewsCenter's Women in Leadership Award and the American Heart Association's American Heart and Stroke Heroes Award.

At the age of 43, Cleo had two right-side ischemic strokes that initially rendered her unable to move or speak. After 12 years of what she calls "continuous rehab through everyday living," she's now able to pursue her mission: to promote healing through a positive outlook and provide encouragement for people living with the effects of stroke. At the young age of 50, Cleo graduated with honors from the University of Minnesota. To find out more about Cleo, e-mail her at CleoHutton@aol.com.
