The Artricle is quite informative as far as symptoms are concerned. I am an Ayurvedic Doctor and my wife is Homeopathic Doctor. Both of us have been facing similar condition. Nasal blockage or obstuction is most cases is the cause of un-sound sleep and keeps one tired all 24 hours. The cause of nasal problem can generally be weather conditions or pollution. Me and my wife resorted to different modes of treatment and consulted a number of ENT Specialists, but with no permanent solution. Being Muslim, I was reciting the Holy Quran, and I read that usage (eating and applying) of Olive Oil cures a number of diseases. I started applying very little amount of pure virgin Olive Oil in the nose with the help of small finger before going to bed, and found astonishing results. There remained no nasal blockage and I am having sound sleep since many years with no snoring, and I keep energetic every next morning although I am now in my sixties. Another benefit I have observed that application of Olive Oil also cures knee and joint pain. However, the Olive Oil may not be cold, and it may not be heated at all. The Almighty Allah is the Only Creator of the Univerve and He has prodoced a number of things beneficial to mankind, and if we see His divine guidance, we can get rid of a number of problems. A.S. Is it possible that the aerial spraying of chemicals could be causing some of these issues? Just wondering. Read an article about taking a zinc glycinate tablet along with a cayenne capsule daily when the air is full of "trails", the author of the article seemed to know what they were talking about.

When doing the 'hold your nostril open' test, I realized I really wasn't breathing as well as I could, so I'm off to get breathing strips!

my sinuses are stuffed a lot of the time. When I had to go onto systemic fungus medication (fluconazole) for a few weeks my sinuses became clear and I slept easier. A week or so later the stuffed condition of my breating returned. Also true of my gastritis and the butocks where I have read somewhere that many of our "cancer" might possibly be undiagnosed fungal infection--especially certain cancers of the brain such as glioblastoma and that candidiasis ( a fungus) can place on the patient a high risk factor for developing cancer later on. Anybody know anthing about the fungal connection?

I suffer from congestion and snoring at night... When I awake, even if I had 8-9 hours of sleep, I am tired throughout the day. I had a sleep study and they found nothing. After taking the the test in this article, I am going to try breathing strips when I sleep. Hope it works!

The CPAP works great for me - three years running. No more kicking or snoring. I highly recommend it for apnea. However, I do experience more frequent nightly erections as a side effect.

STOP Daylight Saving Time and our bodies will returned to their normal function - Why does our government have to TELL us when to sleep? Mother Nature did that and it has worked for centuries. Please google "health hazards created by Daylight Saving Time." This is serious. Write your President, Congress and anyone else who will listen to us. The CDC is reporting more and more that lack of sleep is ruining our health.

There is a short you tube clip showing how to reduce the turbinates and why a persons nose is blocked to begin with. very informative.

Also possible that our turbinates enlarge at night. Noticeable if you feel one side of your nose is plugged. If your roll over to your other side that feeling may change to the other side. You will wake not being able to breath. Standing up tends to reduce them. Been told it happens more in caucasians than blacks due to a thinner nose while blacks tend to have a wider nostril. Had the turbinate reduction done yesterday and expecting it to help significantly.

Yawn....I just started using Breath Rights in the last few months. They have definitely made a difference in my sleep and energy levels. I can only imagine with a CPAP machine might do for me. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and a deviated septum and had surgery to correct it. It helped for about the first month and then seem to revert back to how I felt before.

cool story bro!

this was a good article but I absolutely HATE articles that spread it out over 4 pages to maximize page view counts instead of just putting the whole article on one page. Just ridiculous, especially without the option to see the article as a single page.

It sounds like my fatigue could well be due to UARS. This is the first time I've heard of it. Thanks for the info. I particularly liked that there was a specific, clearly explained test to see whether breathing strips would help.

"While sleep apnea is much more common in men (only 5 percent of those with apnea are women) UARS affects men and women about equally," is poor writing. Compound sentences may not be good English. Better in this case to separate clauses into two sentences. The point of writing is not to show off. It is to transmit concepts clearly.

This article on UARS was highly informative, as I am a voracious reader and had never heard of it. As a chronic insomniac, it is extremely likely that this is my problem. I have every single one of the conditions mentioned: orthodontia for crowded teeth, a small jaw, and a very thin neck. I plan on purchasing the breathe-right nose strips tomorrow!

Hello all. I have a different view of the problems described here. Has anyone experiencing these problems had their hormone levels checked. Our body naturally loses hormones as we age. I strongly urge against synthetic hormones and go with natural hormones. I am just getting into this field, but alot of what is happening to people is the lack of estrogen, testosterone,or prgesterone. The reason for someone's depression may be linked to the lack of hormones in their body. I can go on and on. Just my 2 cents.

I wasn't aware of the new label UARS. Sounds like my problem. This has inspired me to make an appointment with an ENT that has knowledge about UARS instead of just considering it for such a long time . I am constantly waking during the night realizing that one side my nasal passage is blocked. My remedy has been to turn my head to the opposite side. I have no idea how many times I do this every night. I look forward to a solution to this ongoing problem.

I have tried the nose strips - and they kept me awake for two weeks until I threw them out. Has anyone else experienced this? I have made the assumption that they were affecting a pressure point in my face that kept me awake. It was a very bizarre experience.

Wow. I have never heard of this. Thanks for the info.

No, no don't go to a doctor or use a CPAP machine if you have this ailment. If you do, and then lose your health care benefits, you will probably not be able to purchase private insurance. I have been told by three health plans (Aetna, Anthem and Assurant) that because I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and use a CPAP unit, that is considered a pre-exisitng condition and they have the right to deny me coverage. So, if there's a chance you will lose your health benefits, don't see a doctor about this condition.

I take forever, usually an hour or more, to get to sleep. Then I toss and turn all night, waking up several times. Then I am tired when I get up.....This sounds like it could be the answer. At least I can mention it to my Dr.....Thanks (UARS)

I am checking on my self. I've taken antidepressants for over 20 yrs....twice close to a breakdown....It takes forever to go to sleep and I toss and turn all night. I also have acid reflux. It wakes me sometimes....Then in the mornings, I am tired and often feel just lazy...

I see one person referenced to these findings. Perhaps the book he wrote gives reference to various studies finding these results to be accurate? All comments so far appear to support this advice to be useful. Even if so, I still wonder if underlying causes would prevent long term benefits. With this being the time of year people start getting sick, I sure hope this isn't a sales pitch hoping to increase profits for the nose sticker company... Regardless of the validity of these claims, this is my first visit to caring.com, and I am not impressed.

Never heard of UARS. have been suffering through sleep APNEA and CPAP with compounded issues because nothing works. UARS is EXACTLY WHAT i HAVE HAVE BEEN SUFFERING. i WILL DEFINATELY BRING THIS TO THE ATTN of my PCP. Astounding news regarding Paxil and sexual disfunction. I take the clinical maximum amount recommended and have had the discribed issues for 5 or 6 years now. That with 2 different Hypertension treatments and now I know what that can do. I am printing all of this for my next appointment. THANK YOU!!!!!

I think I have this problem. Just diagnosed with bronchial airways that are narrowed, but no diagnosis about why---have sleep/drowsiness problems like sleep apnea, but NOT sleep apnea. Wake many times in te night. Thanks.

This is an "aha" moment for me. My culprit is allergic rhinitis. After sleep studies, attribution of the cold hands and feet to Raynaud's, thyroid studies and med adjustments, I'm still exhausted. It's great to have another avenue to explore.

Anonymous said over 1 year ago

That makes perfect sense for myself!!

You may also benefit from using a Neti Pot. The little pot filled with warm water and saline solution has been used by yogis for centuries but has now become more mainstream. My ENT recommended it to me. Neill Med puts them out and you can find them in drugstores. The saline solution that comes with the pot is a higher quality than common table salt - more gentle and soothing on the sinuses. They also make a spray version which provides a little stronger clearing action but may not be as easy to tolerate, depending on your level of congestion.

I have Marfan Syndrome. In 1999 I had two valves replaced. The mitral and aortic valves. The surgery went well, and I have been receiving excellent medical care. My doctor explained to me that I could continue to work as long as I performed the kind of work I had been doing prior to my surgery. I worked in corporate offices performing accounting, secretarial and other clerical and analytic duties. My basic problem has been with the ignorance that I have encountered my condition and the medication which I must take. I am lucky. I have to take only two which is Warfarin Sodium and Benezepril. I had received an offer from a particular person saying that I could use his machine to take my protime. But his machine is designed to measure the glucose in his blood. He is a diabetic. Then this same person said that I could manage my blood thinning by altering my diet. I looked at him and told him he was not a doctor, and I wasn't interested. It was as though he wanted to experiment on me. I explained to this person in detail exactly what my conditon was and why the need for the medications I take. It is hard for me to believe that in this day and age with all the technological advances that a person could be that uninformed.
