Respiratory Therapy for Someone With Chronic Lung Disease
By Maria M. Meyer and Paula Derr, with Mary Gilmartin, Contributing writers
A respiratory therapist will oversee any respiratory equipment in the home and instruct you and the person in your care on how to use the equipment. The respiratory therapist may also teach breathing and coughing exercises as well as how to use airway clearance devices. These devices clear mucus from airways to improve breathing and help prevent respiratory infection and are critical to care for many lung diseases like COPD or NTM.
