We have found excercise absolutely vital - my husband finds a short leisurely walk outside - just 5 mins, before he goes to bed greatly improves his night. its been striking how easy he finds it to walk outside, how difficult inside. I also really notice how much having stimulating visitors helps - a good argument with good friends - really makes everything move much better! Trouble is, this tends to make having a few drinks come into the equation - and would be interested to know how alcohol is deemed to affect Parkinsons. I feel it doesnt help at all - but my husband really feels a glass of whisky soda, and a glass or two of wine every evening are vital to his wellbeing! - who is right?

My husband has parkinson and I was wondering if the medicine he takes can change his personality. I think he has also developed an sexual addiction. I found he is spending alot of time at the local strip clubs. Can you help me?

There is a therapy called "Big and loud" It basically wants the patient to think about excessive motions in every thing they do. Speech is included, enabling the patient to talk louder. My wife was in a wheel chair for about a year. We had a OT, PT and a speech therapist come to the home , each two times per week for about eight to ten weeks. The result was that she is now walking around the house with a "U Step" walker. Speech has improved. She also "almost " gets out of bed by herself each day. Continued exercise is important!. It has improved her life and mine as well.

I read an article about your Parkinson's Exercise class. I wanted to share our new project which is an educational, movement and exercise guide for PD. There is more information about this on the website (www.parkinsonsmoveit.com) . The project was sponsored in part by NPF. A percentage of proceeds from this project goes to NPF and Hawaii Parkinsons Association. Feel free to contact me regarding any questions that you may have. Great article! I am a physical therapist and we just completed a DVD project on movement techniques and exercise that features Wally "Famous" Amos as the narrator. A portion of proceeds to National Parkinson Foundation. For more information: www.parkinsonsmoveit.com
