My father is in assisted living and it takes all his SS benefits plus benefits from the Veterans and 1000.00 a month out of our pocket for him to live there. Dad is 94. He has no funds of his own, no assets either. He does have Humana Medicare replacment plan that costs 84.00 over his Medicare but saves money in the long run due to a reduced ded etc. Is there a way to help with the 1000.00 out of pocket me as a family member needs to pay to supplement this care for him? We live in Waukesha County Wisconsin, both of us do.

I am a 64 yr old woman with a severely handicapped daughter that is 46 next month. Well for many years well 43 to be exact, and I have done this on own her father has been out of her life since she 13 yrs old. I had another husband that he was her daddy and he left with a good friend of mine and it was very hard on LIana my daughter. I ham older now and her as well and I would like to know if there are other care givers that feel like we are the lost in this big technical life we live in. I know I feel overwhelmed at times and I have to put my self in time out just to take a freath. She like a 2 yr old mentally and she doesn't talk, but she is so very smart and understands pretty much everything you saw its amazing but her lately she has been doing a lot more whining and crying for no reason and I am the only one areound her all of the time for quite a few years and I have never ever allow her to stare at people in the stores like people will do to us every time. She always been for the most part a happy girl and we always seem to have fun together/ but the only one here besides Liana I have to do the chores because I live in the montains and there are things you have to do to get ready for summer and winter and it is very hard work. I so I get tired a lot have not been away from Liana in over 2-3 yrs, Which seems crazu tp ,e amd now if I would I would not know what to do. She has also becoming more agrressive towards me if she does not get her way, and that were the case we would always be going ,going and I don't know. I am asking for type of advise a book to read just a note from another caregive that might feel the way I do at times and its seems to get more frequent. "Any help that you can give would greatly appreciitated so very much from the bottom of my heart and God Bless you for responding a head of time. MOM GOING BONKERS

A lot of the comments I have read seem like people who could apply for their local vocational rehabilitation programs or Workforce Initiatives opportunities acts through local career centers. I know each state operates these centers a little differently, but they are federal programs. Even so- if you contacted your local offices and did not get anywhere you could then reach out to your local state representative (you can Google "who is my State Rep and type in your city/county) and they can give you some feedback... after all, they are there to represent you.

I would like to bring this to the notice of the public about how i met Anz Jackson Financing PLC after i lost my job and being denied loan by my bank and other financial institution due to my credit score. I could not pay my children's fees. I was behind on bills, about to be thrown out of the house due to my inability to pay my rent, It was during this period my kids were taken from me by foster care. Then i set out to seek for funds online where i lost $3,670 that i borrowed from friends which i was rip off by two companies. Until i read about: anzjacksonfinancingplc@yahoo.com where i was granted a loan to pay up my debts and to start up a business. You can as well give them a call or text at: +18437769340. Why am i doing this? I am doing this to save as many that are in need of a loan not to be victim of scams on the internet.

It does sadden me that so many others seem to have a more difficult time, dime, life. Basically, I've had many talents to give to society, service and business until one fatal divorce, 100% in the negatives. It does find my interest that in a country so rich with people, wealthy than all others, jobs springing back to life, that I find not only a certain state ( Ohio ) leaving us prime older gen's out to rot ( noun ) ( 55 - 65) while a certain age discrimination is being allowed to culminate right before our eyes, is for sure, now solid in my mind, a true thing ( I've been humble across the boards and pass interviews with flying colors until, the age factor ). Now I do look 45ish at 57 most times so, I am now aware that it has to do with insurance costs and age associated. What employers fail to realize is, that I can make you a million in revenue a year and I or others are not worth it ? seriously ? so the numbers. On the other hand, I for the first time in life after spending down my own annuity as income only to get hit with a kidney issue, so I file for help. Takes a few weeks but I get an appointment to wait 2 hours for a 10 minute meet. I instantly notice, I am scoped out. In the interview process, I can not only sense the animosity of ( why are you here ) I can audibly hear it from the agent case examiner who, near instantly flag's my app. Now back to square one restart because someone tipped the wrong data entry key at the state level. So here I am, in the over 57 group of BB'ers, constantly for 6 years looking for employment, paid into the systems for nearly 32 and I can't get help even while my income is more than 43% below the poverty level, I somehow survive, paying what I can, having good people in contact but now, I'm on my own sick. Applied for the medicaid and feeling anxious over that, not at all like my net or gross worth is anywhere approaching just a very few thousand frog backs in an old work truck value, if this is what America was meant to be, I'm still not sure I want to live here even though as my heritage indicates 25% NAI. I'd rather go back to the old ways or not even know that I've paid into a system all these years for services that were to be there when I needed them. More to read at a later time, no hero here, just was the messenger for God, this country and people a service performed and hoping for the best for the rest of the ride. In the meantime to all you males 55-65, plan for the worst and pray / hope for the best and if you loose it all, don't waste time, jump in and begin the processes your entitled to otherwise, you may never get the chance to be improved by the system that never was.

There was a grace period on the insurance so i was able to go to a rehab. After that I was put on SSI. On Easter morn 2015 my husband fell down the steps and broke his neck its been so horrible. For over a year we sent him place to place, hard to find one with a vent ward . Thank God he is finally settled. He gets social security which he told me to use for the house and our two boys. We have two sons. Our oldest was in a bad accident. he is now paralyzed from c7 down he gets SOC, SEC, under my husbands accnt. We are losing our home of 17 years and do not make enough to afford anything..Question are we as his disabled spouse and his disabled son entitled to his Social Security

We are having a difficult time since we moved to a new state to be close to my family. My husband is disabled and a veteran. I am disabled with Parkensens and R. A. The arthritis is chronic. We are getting more and more Dr. bills. And getting behind. We had a bankruptcy chapter 7. In the state we left. We moved into a tiny trailor in a trailer park. We are buying the tiny trailer. It will be paid off in September. We. Have been working on renovating it so when it is paid off we can sell it. But my husband's knees are so bad he can no longer do any of the work. And now my hands and feet are really deformed I can't do much. He needs knee surgery. But what will I do then. I need a volunteer or two to come help me do some hard work. Climbing on ladders, etc. We are on fixed income we can't pay much. Our credit is 614 and 642. Still can't get a loan cause of the bankruptcy. Cause I need a house I can get fixed up for him and m and live the rest of our lives in. Any idea guys please help!!

The Prescription Assistance program should also be listed. If you have Medicare part D, you can apply for help paying for your monthly meds. Also, ELECTION STATEMENT SSA-795 TO KEEP GETTING MONTHLY INCOME IF YOU'RE SSDI GETS CANCELED AND YOU'RE APPEALING IF YOU DO NOT BRING IT TO THE LOCAL OFFICE WITHIN 10 DAYS, YOU WILL GET NO INCOME DURING YOUR 6-18 MONTH APPEAL WAIT. SSI and SSDI will NOT tell you about this form When I asked why, they said because the money has to be paid back if your appeal is denied. Another good tip is to install a call recorder app. Ask permission to record the call at the start of the conversation. Once they say yes, you can legally do whatever you want with it I can't count how many times this tool saved my butt. It made my SSDI appeal almost instant. Record the call, get name, last initial, location, and a reference or ticket number. I recommend listening to recording and keeping a diary of what was said by who on what day and time, etc. Trust me. This is why my appeal was 2 weeks instead of 2 years!

I am looking for an inexpensive phone/internet plan (less than $59.99 a month, which we currently pay to Verizon). All of the plans include TV, which I don't want to pay for. One company (RCN) said we could get internet for $31.00/mo with Vonage, but that plan's rate jacks up after 6 months. The RCN man said land lines are becoming more expensive as the cell phones take over. Very frustrating, as I am trying to REDUCE my monthly bills. any suggestions?

Hello, my name is JJ I have been disabled now for over 14 years now, due to a domestic violence situation. I had to close my business and move in with my 82 year old mom, I am now 40 and getting ready to live independently, but I'm afraid to leave mom she is not doing well, with her SS income from her 1st husband and with my SSDI we were able to get the house paid off luckily the payment was low and with help from an outside person we did it, but the house is too big for her alone and she really wants to downsize, but my sisters think she should just stay here because it is paid for, but it makes her very depressed; because she can't keep it as clean as she would like it, and the yard is way too much, I suggested that when I go into my apartment she get one and we sell the house and finish her bucket list, which isn't much at all, just go to the beach 1 more time and us just doing things together. We also have 2 dogs that of course are our family too. It's very hard to find an apartment with a fenced in yard. I've made a duplex plan out and I would love to get them built, not just for mom and I but for all the people who are veterans and disabled and cannot walk their dog. I was wondering if there was a grant I could get or some sort of loan so I could get these built for All of us.

I am 61 years old, am on disability and only get 1500.00 per month between my disability and less than half of my husband's social security, who died in Oct of 2014. I got behind on a couple of bills including my light bill and cable bill, which includes my phone bill. TV is my only entertainment, and I am cutting that back to the bear minimum. I still have more bills than money each month. Unfortunately, I got involved with the wrong person for 3 months and he stole from me, and really got me behind on my bills. Up until then I was doing fine. What options do I have considering I am not allowed to get a part time job to help with my income. I don't know what to do: I am at a lost.

Hello, My Dad died when I was 19 my Mom has been a widow ever since, due to the high cost of rent in Calif she continued to work till she was 80 before retiring . At that time we moved her to a retirement community where the rent was lower ( just under $1,000 ) still high by my standards for anyone on a fixed income. She barley makes it each month. My husband & I pay for everything else like car repairs, eye glasses, dentist appointment , everything medical, I'm sure you get the picture here! We are approaching retirement ourselves now and need to cut some of these exspences. Mom is now 87, is there any programs that would possibly help pay for her eye glasses and dentures? Any little bit would help! She will not give up her independence and I don't want her to... But I also don't want to ask my husband to continue to work just because of my mom either.

With my doctor adding fibromyolgia; lupus complications from my age and now koint pain, I am only 55, are the services to buy a home or condo in Sacramento. I worked for State government for 30 years and my pension is life time. When I can I pick up parttime work if I need to. I bring in about $36,000 a year, my tax preparer reported in April, 2015. I live in a rural community and can't even get transportation for shopping or medical appt.s. my home is owner financed and they want to foreclose as does the county(for land taxes). Lillebeth, call a community college that is near to where you live and talk with student / financial affairs counsellor (ask the person who answers the phone). Explain your situation and what is the best way for you to achieve your goal. A community college is easier to get into and can be used to transfer into a 4-year college if needed (after you get your two yr. associates degree).

I am disabled and have been for 18 years. About one month ago the pain center that I have attended for 17 year stopped seeing me because the Aprn associated with the clinic got in trouble with the DEA for over writing class2 narcotics. So the head doctor got rid of all her patients. I shouldn't have to suffer for her wrong doings. I recieve SSI, and due to the fact that providers in Ct don't want to except Medicaid, only Medicare. I am still doctorless. I have spoke with a lawyer and I do have a case against the pain center through the Patient Abandonment law. The law states that the doctors can not leave their patients without a treatment plan, follow up doctor. or a heathly way to continue my treatment for my disability at hand. Money is the last thing on my mind lately, I just need help with my pain. I'm just wondering if there is anyway that you know that I can also recieve medicare along with my medicaid. I'm finding it impossible to find another doctor. Thank you!

I've been declared disabled long term in FL. I collect SSI, Medicaid, and EBT only. i fled for my life after an attempted on my lift. After a week zi returned. The small bag of important paper, medications, and s few change of clothes were all stolen from the DV shelter where I stayed by an advocate! When I arrived home, my batterer sold my car, trashed ALL my belongings, while he hid the valuables at an undeslosed location. (Im forced to wear Goodwill clothing ) Facing homelessness in six weeks, I recently inherited 20k! As a first time buying with pretty good credit, can I actually purchase a small condo with 15k? With no other assets, savings, stocks, bonds, or realatate, would I lose my SSI and Mexicaid? The only other option is to purchase a car to ilive in. My batter, though ordered lost an order of protection, continues to stalk me. If I lived on the street, as U have, he will continue to hurt me. What is my first step and with whom would I speak with? sisterleaving me 20k. What is my first move? I've never own a home and desperately need a safe roof over head. Will I lose me benefits and if 15k-20k enough dwn on a small condo. Would I lose my government benefits or should I purchase to car as shelter? He doesn't abide by the retraining order and I need to relocate asap. Thank you.

I am 80 my husband 81 I have been caring for him for many years. Now his doctors tell me he has too many problems for me to care for him alone. He is diabetic ( insulin dependent ) Heart problems, congestive heart failure, high blood pressure, vascular dementia plus others. My question is how can I pay for assisted living care as his doctors suggest and still have enough for me to live. Our income is his military retired pay and ss payments

I am disabled and my spouse has buldging dics in his back. We are the caregivers for my father who is on hospice in our home. We are exalted taking care of him. Is there help we can get in doing house work. I can't seem to get it done or even have time to take a shower or take care of myself. Having a house keeping service is so expensive we can't afford it. What can we do for help in our home?

about 9 years, said...

Hello , thank you for this site! My question is this, I am now in the process of my house being foreclosed. I have tried for a long time to work with the six different servicers on my loan. I've had lawyers friend who've called on my behalf trying to figure a way out! The bank is Wells Fargo with the first servicer being Option one. My loan has been sold on several occasions, always with a whole new set of rules and regulations. At this time the bank "Wells Fargo" has decided that because I sent my payments without including their interest rate changed after five years that I am in default, the have dismissed any and all payments I have made and I am now in arrears for twelve yrs. Of payments, including, taxes, late fees, service charges, and so on, they have for their records that I have. Ever made a payment in the twelve yrs I've been in my home! I'm at a loss, I was recently turned away from an apartment in a very safe location where I could move my mom and I because of the effects that the foreclosure is having on my credit! I am wondering I have been told that there is a government program where I would be able to have an allowance being the sender caretaker for my mom is this something I could look into? I have had my mom with me for twelve years and I'm just lost, bi can't afford to fix the house, it's snowing in the windows. I have an urgent need for a speedy and effective plan but have no savings, that was one of the reasons I was rejected, if I could have shown that I had a large amount of money tucked away in a savings account the decision would have been different help!

i have been fighting for my disability for four years now. i was a very independent person before this. i live with my husband and he makes over the limit for me to get any help. the thing is, he does not pay any medical bills, he doesnt give me any money period, he writes down what he wants paid and i go do that but have to bring reciepts and any change left back to him. i am of good state of mind and not a bad money mismanager, its just his way of controlling things for me. in the meantime, his income goes over the limit for me to get any help so i go to the free clinic in my area. and i get med assist help for my meds. do i really have to turn in his income when it is not my income and i get no help with paying my expenses which are only for medical nothing else. my bills are piling up and now the places are not wanting to see me anymore because i use his income but i cannot pay them. thanks for any info you can help with. sincerely jane

For the diabetic shoes, you have to have your doctor write a prescription and he should have the carrier list of shoe stores already.

You don't say where the shoe stores for diabetics are and if it can be done at home. Some of us don't drive or get out of the house except to go to doctors.

Great stuff. Social Security is a lifeline for many who reach retirement. One secret gem is the year you begin withdrawing. Delaying just a few years (from 62 to 67 for example) you can increase your payout by 15% to 30%! This can be a gold mine. The major advantage Social Security has over other retirement investments is that it's guaranteed income until you pass. Be patient. Wait a few years and increase your monthly income from Social Security dramatically.

My wife died of brain cancer in Nov. 2013. Our mortgage had life insurance. I am also disabled, going for by pass surgery two days after my wife's funeral. I filed a claim with the bank for the life insurance in January, but did not receive an approval until May. The insurance company only paid 76.5 % of the claim stating because she had answered yes to a question on the application in 1997 she was not fully covered.I have a copy of the app and the question she answered yes to was: Do you have a mental illness? she was bipolar for over 20 years and it was well controlled with medication. Although it is not a huge amount left owing on the mortgage, I am on a very limited income and it is a burden. It irks me that I have no recourse and that they can deny a cancer death payment of theclaim because my wife caught cancer, in no way associated with her disability. Human rights informs me that I would not have a claim of discriminating against a person with a disability because insurance companies are exempt from discriminating against most disability claims. It seems criminal to me, and now I am being harmed by their greed. People should be aware they have no conscience and will avoid paying any way they can, since most people could not afford to fight their army of lawyers.

It's been 2-1/2 years since my husband's Alzheimer's diagnosis. I've spent countless hours online studying the disease and caregiver techniques. I have designed a caregiver manual geared specifically for his care. For every tip/technique I've printed for the manual I have tossed dozens. This manual cross references Alzheimer's.Org and Caring.Com information; Alzheimer's research, my husband's phase, medication and behavior. The manual will never be complete as long I as there are new treatments and behavioral concepts introduced from these trusted sources. I am firmly convinced there are no government programs available to make our journey less painful and less expensive because he/we do not meet specific qualifications. Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers are drowning in websites and telephone numbers that lead to suggestions and no action.

You know, I have been disabled for 20 years. My SS disability check is so small I could not support myself. I lived in my mom's home and she paid my bills, supplied me with an auto, and paid my medical. ect. She became ill with dementia, had to go into a nursing home. My sister took no waste in time in kicking me out of the home and into the street. She also told me I was responsible for my mom's care. I couldn't even afford the gas money to get to her. She died 2 years ago. All this time she had been collecting SS. My sister succeeded in hiring an attorney and securing every dime of my mom's estate. I am in my late 50's. Do you think I am entitled to some of my mom's SS check? I had an attorney too, but he just stole whatever I had coming to me. and kept if for himself. He was spose to be an upstanding guy. I have no comment at this time. I'll just get upset again and it's not good for me. Any answers anyone?

I'm sorry but come on...just because someone types in capitals, it isnt yelling unless what they say is an angry comment. It also isnt rude or inconsiderate. That's just plain silly and I cant believe anyone would be this ridiculous as to make such remarks to a person who types in caps. I dont use caps for that reason but honestly I would prefer to type in caps just so I dont have to capitilize the beginning of sentences or names. How about not being so picky and critical to those who type differently than you. It isnt rude, it's just their choice. I dont hear any yelling, my head doesnt hurt nor do my ears. The windows arent rattling. Nope, no one yelled.

Hi folks, We appreciate you posting comments on Caring.com whether you post in all caps or not. What's more important is to avoid the use of personal attacks or insults -- that's not only rude in both online and offline worlds, it's also against our site terms of use and community code of conduct: http://www.caring.com/about/community_guidelines . the information on diabeters and getting special shoes because i know several people who might qualify for this. Also the low cost maintenance help.

about 11 years, said...

I wish I could "like" DesertGal's comment!! Too true; BTW, y'all, it's impolite and downright rude to type in all caps on any post or e-mail on the Internet. Oh, and to the person who tried to dispel #2 by saying they couldn't get free shoes because they had peripheral neuropathy but no diabetes -- that's the whole point of the free shoes, is that if you've got diabetes said neuropathy (which is a side effect of the diabetes) is actually supposed to be *dangerous*. If you can't feel your feet that well, you won't be able to feel when you've injured it, and because injuries heal much slower if you're diabetic, that could lead to dangerous infections or even amputation (as per what happened to my mom). So diabetics actually *need* special shoes so they won't be in any danger of this happening. If you've just got neuropathy, you can live with regular shoes with orthotic inserts. And as far as this article's concerned, the only one I found to be of any use AND something I never knew of before was the final one, about free or discounted lawn/home maintenance. Since it's already spring where I live (in terms of weather), it's already time to start planning out lawn maintenance, and it would be nice to not have to pay as much for that as I'm paying right now so we can have more of a money cushion in my/our household. I'm going to use that information as soon as I can!

Why are some of these people when they leave comments yelling? This is so inconsiderate. Please do not yell.

about 11 years, said...

There is no such thing as a free ride. I used to have this on my insurance plan but they discontinued it about 10 years ago. I have had to go in for outpatient surgery and you are not permitted to drive afterwards due to the drugs. All a person can do is use cab service to and from and that gets pretty costly when you have to travel 10-25 miles to the surgical center.

about 11 years, said...

This has been VERY helpful to me. I now understand about benefits for seniors and veterans. Thanks for the artical.

about 11 years, said...

Regarding #2. the problem is even if a doctor prescribes Orthotics for your feet, Medicare refuses to pay unless you have diabietes, and (at least my insurance company UHC, says their rules are the same as Medicare.) I was having foot pain for months, eventually I was diagnosed to have peripheral nueropatjy (usually caused by diabetes but not in my case). So no diabetes, no Medicare coverage.

I have read this article before. Reading it again today provided an opportunity to refresh information applicable to Social Security recipients. I would like to have seen expanded Alzheimer's patient and caregiver benefits. Unfortunately, the paragraph devoted to Alzheimer's treatment and another segment covering caregiver income is all there is. Thank you website administrators for continuing to inform us. I am reminded to continue learning about the disease and the projected future for ALZ patients. I am now reminded daily that many caregivers hasten their own death by ignoring stress-related body signals.

I was the wife and primary caregiver for my husband he passed away in October. I was quite surprised when I found out that there was no help. I am under 55 so do not qualify for his social security yet although they did tell me that the age was 60 not 62. So the day he died any income I had stopped this was a shock. His illness had eaten up any saving we had so when I say I was left with nothing I mean it because we needed for him to be on Medicaid to be able to get his meds some of which we very expensive there wasn't even any unemployment. Don't feel to bad for me though I am now back in school and will soon have an income again. I am hope to find a way to make sure that no one else has to fall off this cliff. When I am able to figure it all out I will post it. I need to talk to a few people before that can happen. All of you take care and never forget that caregiving is one of the hardest but also one of the most rewarding things that you can do in life. What ever the one you love is going through it makes it easier to fight because a loving person is on their side. Blessings to all.

Medicaid covered for Alzheimer's treatment. I'll need to look for hidden hooks, ie if only caregiver is patient's 77 year-old spouse. Also, I live in Florida and even tho Area Agency is federally funded I fear there are also hidden requirements to qualify, i.e. if 77 year old caregiver spouse does all of the driving to another city thru very heavy traffic not only for her own dr. appointments (cancer in remission and hypertension) but to his medical appointments....and also manages and performs with great stress all of the services listed as available thru the local office of Area Agency which I fear has numerous requirements based on criterion not mentioned in this article. Nonethless, you have given me pause to re-think which benefits he qualifies for regardless of the fact his spouse carries the whole load. Thank you, author!

When my mother filled out her RETIREMENT FORM, she didn't know that she could have listed me & my sister to get her BENIFITS for up to 120 weeks/months, should she passed. We contacted the company, and was told that she did not fill out the FORM CORRECTLY, and furthermore, she has out lived that BENEFITS....I'm disabled and we both owned our home. I am her main Caregiver, but I do not get compensated for that. Who would pay me? Medicare sent both of us letters, informing us to take it to our pharmacy, for additional help in paying for our meds. I was successful, but the company that my mother worked, told us if she took that EXTRA HELP, they will cut her off of their benefits...That isn't fair, she's taking 12 prescribed meds at $30.00 to $40.00 each. We are out of the little savings that we both had. We had done alot of home repairs, and I had to purchased a car, because my mom has alz/dementria, and cannot drive over two years . I am now making car payments and car insurance from my SSA disability check. Thank you for providing this SITE..I am hoping that we will get some kind of assistance.

Check laws before you move you can't get some og these services in some areas and some states charge when they are available. Insurance companies try ti warehouse people in nursing homes when they still have much to offer. Disabled prople can offer many services but it seems insurance companies prefer to warehouse rather than treat and allow prople return to work. I think my insurance company owns or has an agreement with nursing homes whibh seems like a conflict of interest. Where is the government and why are they not helping the disabled ir enforcibg ADA laws? Please do not publish maybes and give false or half information. It can cause more problems. The disabled have a hard enough time finding a doctor's office they can be treated in or even enter and insurance does not pay or authorise x-rays and ultra-sound in hospitals and I can't jump on the table. I would be transfering now but my insurance refuses physical therapy and suggests a nursing home. No lawyers wwant the case. BE careful. Think positive and heal on your own.

Social Security told me that even though I am disabled and on disability I can not receive my husband's social security or any portion of it until I am 62 years of age. I can noy receive any home care in Nevada until I sign over my home to the state, Nevada gives nothing be careful when requesting services and do not sign papers without an attorney. There are more errors and places that require more information.

Please correct the age of a surviving spouse being able to collect their deceased spouse's Social Security benefits. It is 60, not 62, as long as they have not remarried. If they are disabled, then that is correct at age 50.

I have searched the internet and come up completely empty. Please help, for all of us in the same boat.

VA's Aid-In-Attendance benefit. The management at Visiting Angels in Lawrenceville, NJ made me aware of this program. My father, a veteran, is deceased and I had a heck of a time obtaining a copy of his DD-214. He received a full military funeral having only his wallet discharge card, yet the VA refused to grant the Aid-In-Attendance benefit for my mother due to the inability of the National Personnel Records Center to find his DD-214. It was allegedly lost in a fire at their archives. Has anyone else had this kind of difficulty?

Hi I have run into a problem and do not believe I am the only one. The person I was caring for was my husband. He was very ill with a number of illnesses that the doctors never did figure out what the trigger was. So the treated the symptoms some of the medications where so expensive and even with medicare part D and a insurance supplement we could not afford his medications. When I was working we made just enough that he did not qualify for additional help of any kind so for a while we just went without. He got sicker as time went by. When the crash happened and I lost my job and we lost our home OK we weathered that storm and landed on our feet but as he became sicker one of the thing that developed was high ammonia levels and confusion he was tested and we were told at the time that his liver was normal so the started testing genes these were not the cause either. So the went with mitochondria that was inconclusive to. Well anyway after loosing my job he became eligible for medicaid and we could get him the medications he needed. So I became his full time care giver I loved it,it as I got to spend a lot of time with him make sure he was taking he medication right etc. he was also diabetic at the end so his diet became quite complicated. Now last month he passed away and because I was caring for him I lost my job the same day. The way this state pays for care giving is for the person who need the care to be the employer of the one giving care. The care for most is considered to be part time and so nothing is payed into unemployment. Now it is not bad enough that I lost my husband whom I loved very much and my job. I do can not get unemployment and because I am under 60 and we have no children under 18 no survivors benefits either this has left me with problem I do not know how to deal with and I am wondering if there is any help out their. I am working on going back to school and looking for work but that takes time that I do not have. Thank you for letting me vent if any of you have and idea I would sure appreciate it.

I didn't know I could have custom made shoes. I was given 3 pairs of size 11 shoes at the Podiatrist, which made me trip and fall repeatedly. The only shoes they got were Dr. Comfort, which were not built for my shape of feet. I normally measure a 7-7 1/2 but actually have to purchase expensive size 9 shoes. I have "square feet" toes. All the same length, with the "2nd" toes longer than the Big toes. Also, my Big toe nails curve up. This is all hereditary. Ugh!

I'm a victim of fraud and lost my life savings. I'm disabled and my mobile home had severe damages from 20 years of storms. we signed a contract with a licensed contractor to construct and build a sf house on our property. they had a clean license with dbpr. they started very soon and asked for 5% upfront and we compled. they statred with out a permit and violated many times until they were issued a stop work order. we noticed that they seemed to be trying to do all of the work without subcontractors and many problems exist. we called the state dbpr and filed a complaint. they had abandoned our new house job and contract. we were left with a incomplete partcial house with many severe problems.dbpr processed my complaint taking 2 years.we got the finale ordersas following" revoked license, repay finesand fees to the state also resitution to us the homeowner for 50k charged with eight counts of fraud. they continued to sam and fraud many other consumers. we had a huge loss and have suffered in many ways.I've tried to get last option homeowners construction recovery funds for a total of almost 3 years. we can't finish our house and soon be poverty and lose all we have worked for in 50 years. shame on the state to watch us suffer and lose our house job and never have the house that we planned for and dreamed with so many changes to pas inspections they even lacked the knowledge to read floor plans and no body seems to care. times are bad but can't we still help and care.

over 13 years, said...

My husband fits this criteria and last year had a custom made pair of shoes. Medicare cover only PART of the cost because his prescription was "complicated" and the cost was more than Medicare allowed. We also have supplemental insurance but if Medicare doesn't pay they don't pay either so I had to pay $350 of pocket for the shoes. He is waiting for another pair (for this year--1 pair per year) to be made. They should be ready in the next two weeks. I know that I will have to pay out of pocket again this time for his shoes but at least Medicare pays for a good percentage of the cost.
