Boredom is another problem for people who are ill, and fighting it can take all your creativity. Try:
- watching funny movies
- taking car or bus trips
- listening to music, especially from the person's youth
- taking up hobbies
- going to social events
- playing board games and card games
- attending public library discussion clubs and using large-print or talking books
- joining activist organizations like the League of Women Voters and Gray Panthers
- spending time with others in similar difficulties—in religious groups, recreation centers, stroke clubs (contact the National Stroke Association), or the YMCA/ YWCA
- being involved in volunteer service organizations such as the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program
- using a computer and accessing sites on the Internet (which helps prevent loneliness through interesting activity and provides the ability to communicate with family and friends through e-mail)
