Alzheimer's Symptoms: How to Convince Mom Not To Walk Unassisted?
We've recently moved mom to assisted living. She's had numerous falls at home recently and a decline in both health and mobility after a fractured pelvis sent her to the hospital and then rehab during the summer. She thinks she is at her adult day care and I am fine with that, but I cannot get her to remember that she cannot walk unassisted. This was a huge issue at home as well. She doesn't believe us when we tell her she can't walk unassisted, because in her mind it is 30 years ago and she is doing everything on her own. They will not allow 'restraints' on wheelchairs. I understand that but I'd rather have her restrained than falling. Yesterday she sprained her thumb and has numerous skin tears from a fall. She just got up and walked away from her wheelchair..for the 3rd time in 2 days. Any suggestions appreciated! This group has been a blessing.
